July 2009 Update

Dear Erin,

It's been really exciting to see God's hand on the ministry this past month. We've had an abundance of visitors from various places in the United States who came to us through different friends and partnerships both in Guatemala and the US. Our children and staff were greatly blessed by their presence. We cried many tears as the Christensen Family returned to the States but are so glad to continue working with them even from afar. Our library has taken amazing shape thanks to our most recent missionary intern and a mission team from Pennsylvania.
Thank you so much to all of you who support Hope for Guatemala with your prayers and financially. We appreciate you!

A Heartbreaking Farewell

The Christensen Family, Brandon, Shanna, Anna Grace, and Hallie, finished their nearly 2 year assignment in Guatemala this July. Hope for Guatemala, our kids, and the Armas Family were so sad to see them go. While with us, the Christenens have been outstanding servants of the Lord. Brandon established our soccer program, established lasting relationships in the market, organized our Stateside fundraising events, as well as helped in multiple ways with our day to day operations. Shanna worked diligently to acquire and organize information on Hope's kids. The Christensen became great friends and confidants for us here in Guatemala. Jose, Daniel, Sofia, and I will miss them greatly.
We are happy to report that the Christensens will continue to work with Hope from their new assignment in Columbia, SC. While their presence here in Guatemala will be lost, their continued collaboration and support in the US is a tremendous gain. We haven't had to say good-bye just Buen Viaje.

Brad Jones: Short Term Missionary

Just days before Brandon and Shanna's departure, were blessed by the arrival of a new short term missionary, Brad Jones. An 18 year old recent high school graduate from Atlanta, GA, Brad decided to use the short time he had between gradation and college to serve the Lord here with us in Guatemala.Brad came armed to serve and started just an hour after his plane landed. While with us, Brad helped serve the children, in the market, to cheer on our soccer teams and even completed a project very close to Hope's heart. Thanks to Brad's generosity and hard work, coupled with the expertise of Fausto Aravelo, the newest addition to Hope's staff, we were able to design, construct, and install the circulation desk in our 3rd floor library. Brad's time with us was a real blessing as his heart for service and incredible openness and positive attitude blessed all those around him. We thank his family, Wes, Marsha, and Tara, as well as North Cobb Christian School for their support and formation of a fine, young man.

Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia Visit Hope

Mission PicThanks to some great partnerships with local and international ministries Hope was visited by groups and individuals from 4 different states in July. A 40+ person team from Wisconsin came and shared time, played, and performed with our children. A group from Pennsylvania, shared through local church, JJJ with Pastor Josue Morales, donated time, money, and energy to purchas and assemble shelving for our library. The group from New Jersey, also thanks to Pastor Morales, performed dramas, shared the Gospel and overall loved on our children. We were also blessed with a visit from a group of business missionaries from Perimeter church in Atlanta, via the Armas Family's church, Lluvias de Gracia. It's amazing to see how God will connect people to further his Kingdom. Thank you to all those involved in making these mission visits possible.

Soccer Teams Advance

The Word of God says that some will sow and others will reap. Brandon worked tirelessly over several seasons with our soccer teams mornings, afternoons, and weekends, while here with us in Guatemala. Fausto took over the teams when Brandon left for the States in July and has been able to enjoy the fruit from the seeds Brandon sowed. One of our boys teams has advanced to yet another post season quarterfinal (outcome to be determined!) and even our girls team has advanced to the playoffs after just 2 seaons in the league! Team effort takes on a whole new meaning with our soccer teams as not only the players have worked together but so have the staff. Go Esperanza!

Thank you again for all you do to support Hope for Guatemala.
